Seppo Paju: “The Rockstar represents the future of competitive disc golf”
I'm Seppo Paju, a 29-year-old disc golf entrepreneur. After enjoying a successful career as a player, I stepped away from competitive disc golf in 2022. Since then, I've been involved in various significant disc golf projects in Europe, with the Rockstar course being one of them.
When asked to be the designer for this historic and legendary venue, I simply couldn’t refuse the opportunity. To me, the Rockstar represents the future of competitive disc golf. With its elevation changes, long open holes, tight wooded holes, water hazards, and various challenges, it's designed to test the skills of the top players in disc golf. We also kept the spectator in mind when designing the course, ensuring that every shot on each hole can be easily seen.
At the European Disc Golf Championship 2023, we saw the course being played for the first time. We noticed some areas that needed changes and also took in feedback from the players. Now we're in the process of making adjustments to the course, and at the festival, Rockstar 2.0 will be ready to rock the world of disc golf. For example, I personally wasn't a fan of hole 9, which will now get a totally new look in the layout. Some other holes will be made longer, while others will receive bigger or smaller adjustments. But I believe players will appreciate this updated layout even more.
My advice for competitors playing at the Rockstar is to remain calm yet be aggressive. Make sure your accuracy is on point to conquer the challenges The Rockstar presents.
I highly recommend that anyone even slightly interested in disc golf attend the European Disc Golf Festival 2024. All the big names will be playing, and it will definitely be a sight to see. Tallinn and the Song Festival Grounds are easily accessible by plane, ship, and car. Tallinn is a gorgeous city with a rich history and is especially lovely in the summer so go get your tickets and see you in Tallinn!
