Presidents Cup comes to Tallinn with a new format

The PDGA Presidents Cup is coming to Tallinn on Tuesday, June 16, bringing Team Europe and Team USA together at the Tallinn Song Festival Grounds as part of the European Disc Golf Festival.

Held just two days before the start of the PDGA European Open, the Presidents Cup will open the festival week with a new format, bigger teams and full gender parity.

This year, the event also grows from two to three 9-hole rounds, all played in one day. Each team will have 14 players, with 7 MPO and 7 FPO players, including reserves. The day will include head-to-head match play, mixed doubles and stroke play, making the event not only about individual skill, but also about team strategy, pairings and captain decisions. The full gender parity in teams is a big step for the event and a strong reflection of disc golf as a sport where both MPO and FPO players play an equally important role in the outcome.

The non-playing team captains will also have a bigger role than before. They will help with team selection, decide lineups for each round, and guide their players through the day. This year, Team USA will be led by Catrina Allen, a two-time World Champion and six-time Presidents Cup player and winner. Team Europe will be led by Kristin Lätt, also a two-time World Champion, who has represented Team Europe four times and now steps into the captain role on home soil in Estonia.

For Kristin, this will be a special moment in a year where she has stepped away from top-level competition as a player.

“It is a great honor to be named Team Captain for Team Europe. To have this opportunity on home soil in Estonia makes it even more special. My biggest hope is that every player can stay present, enjoy the moment and truly have fun out on the course. I believe that when players feel free, confident and connected to the experience, they bring out the very best in themselves. If we can achieve that as a team, we can be proud,” said Kristin Lätt.

Catrina Allen is also excited to take on a new role in an event she knows very well.

“I consider it a great privilege to be named this year’s Captain! I have a passion for coaching, and helping players see their strengths and true potential! I have a strong history with this event. I have played in this event six times over the years. So I am excited and honored for the opportunity to change roles and lead Team USA this time around!” said Catrina Allen.

The Presidents Cup takes place on Tuesday, June 16, at the Tallinn Song Festival Grounds. The PDGA European Open follows from June 18–21, with both events taking place as part of the European Disc Golf Festival.
